Google Pagerank indicator not working?

March 25th, 2010 by riteshtanu No comments »

Have you ever faced this problem? I actually did once. For quite a sometime, I thought the problem is with my Browser so I uninstall it completely and reinstall along with Google toolbar. But this did not solve my problem. I Googled for my problem and found just a few questions on forums related to this problem but none of them was properly answered.

Whenever I used to hover my mouse on the PageRank toolbar, it shows no page rank information available. After browsing through 100 different sites, I found it has to do something with browser history setting.

I use Firefox, just went to the Tools> Option > Privacy  and changed my setting from never remember history to remember history and it started working.

If you are one of those facing issue with this, try resolving as suggested above. I am not aware, if there are other conditions too that prevents this link juice measuring tool to stop functioning.

Please share if you are aware of the other conditions as well.

Should You Bid on Your Competitors Brand Name

March 23rd, 2010 by riteshtanu No comments »

We all do this actually while adding keywords to our adword campaign. But were slightly unsure of the legal compliance in doing so. No more speculations now as today Google announced through its official blog post that a European Court of Justice rules in its favour.

The litigation was on the question that whether the advertisers should be allowed to show advertisements when another company’s brand name is entered as a search query. The case was filed as a trademark violation for which court has confirmed that Google has not infringed trade mark law by allowing advertisers to bid for keywords corresponding to their competitors’ trade marks.

This is actually a great way to preserve the right of free flow of information on internet. Trademarks definitely help us to recognize a product or brand in our day to day life. They are definitely the key to market and advertise a company’s product or services. But the verdict confirms trademarks rights are not absolute at least when bidding for them as a keyword in your search engine advertising campaign.

Google.cn is Redirecting to Google.com.hk

March 22nd, 2010 by riteshtanu No comments »

Speculation had been swirling for sometimes that Google is preparing to announce a decision to pull out of China — the world’s largest Internet market by users — or at least shut down its Chinese search engine.

Some days back it was unofficially said that Google will be closing down all its operations from April 10, 2010. Today it seems that the judgment day has really approached closer. Redirecting Google China Search to Google Hong Kong confirms this speculations.

Google informed the State Department several days in advance of its January public announcement that it might be forced to pull out of the China market due to hacking and censorship concerns.

Google started its operations in China in 2006. Since its inception, the relationship between Chinese Govt. and Google officials has never been in accord.  While many argued Google was complicit in the censorship imposed by Chinese government, Google insisted it was nevertheless serving the public interest even though it was furnishing censored results.

Yahoo Loosing Grounds…..This Time it’s Facebook

February 18th, 2010 by riteshtanu No comments »

February 18th, 2010

Not much longer, Yahoo lost its share in search engine market. Just two years back, the giant Google was ranked as internet’s most popular destination overtaking Yahoo. And this time it is beaten by Facebook.

In the decades of 90s the Yahoo completely dominated the internet through its ubiquitous portal. Yahoo Search, Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Chat, Yahoo Games, Yahoo News and what not.

facebook vs yahoo

The data released by compete.com, last month revealed, in December 2009, Yahoo had 133.45 million visitors in the U.S. while Facebook wasn’t far behind with 132.13 million unique visitors.

But perhaps this New Year, Netizens felt it better to hang on to their Facebook account to get connected with friends and as result, Facebook traffic rose to 133.62 million visitors, while that of Yahoo shrunk down to 132.00 million.

Ranked no. 2, just after Google, currenlty in terms of popularity, Facebook now has more than 400 Million users.
